When the concept goes to press
The principle behind producing an item is based as much on precision as quality. The first level of technical expertise lies in reducing the number of parts to a minimum for reasons of economy and ease of assembly. An excellent example is the aluminium cap for Issey Miyake's L'Eau d'Issey which was designed in 1992. In a single pressing we were able to produce a cylindrical cone-shaped base, topped with a sphere that blended naturally with the overall effect. This opened the way to numerous other challenges, such as the 10 ml "all-metal bottle" for Guerlain's Champs-Elysées, released in 1997, and the brand's emblematic conical, decorative refill holder which is ribbed from top to bottom and which features intricate bevelling and sober perforations.
